The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has defined the new design for the medals of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games. The design was chosen following an international call that gathered proposals from participants in 103 countries. The winning work is titled 'The Roar of Youth', created by 26-year-old Spanish designer Pilar Barbadillo Vicario, selected for her ability to synthesize youth energy with Olympic legacy and African imprint. According to the Argentine News Agency, the winning proposal features a lion figure in the center of the medal, a symbol of strength, courage, and Senegal, the host country of the Games. The design combines tradition and modernity, reinforcing the link between the history of Olympism and its projection towards the future. The organizers highlighted that 'The Roar of Youth' will become one of the most representative symbols of Dakar 2026, a historic edition of the Youth Olympic Games that will mark the first time the event is held on the African continent, with Senegal as the host. Each of the side faces is accompanied by olive crowns, a direct nod to the Olympic ideal, historically associated with peace, the union of peoples, and sporting victory. On the lower part of the obverse, the inscription 'Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games' stands out, along with the Olympic rings, harmoniously integrated into the set. As explained, these figures represent justice and respect, fundamental values of the Olympic movement and central axes of the Youth Olympic Games, which prioritize the comprehensive training of athletes. Visually, the medal presents a sober and contemporary style, with a predominance of golden tones and a work of geometric lines that reinforces the sensation of balance and harmony. According to the official description, the image of the animal seeks to convey leadership, identity, and determination, concepts associated with both the local culture and the competitive spirit of youth sport. One of the distinctive elements of the design is the lion's mane, which adopts a particular composition by forming three symmetrical human faces.
